How does a game of Hometown Shuffle go?
Quick setup
Hometown Shuffle is mostly made up of cards, so just give your decks a quick shuffle, lay them out and grab some energy tokens, and you're ready to go.
Adventuring in Sweetapple
Each game of Hometown Shuffle consists of five days.
At the start of the first day, draw from the Blessings deck to find out what the local spirits want this week—a spider, maybe, or some fish? You'll collect these items throughout the game and offer them to the spirits at the end of each day ... or face the consequences. Offering items to the spirits means less points for your total score, but you don't want to leave the spirits hanging.
At the start of each day, draw from the Locations deck to see which town hotspots are open for you to visit today. Visit locations using the local bus service to score big points.
Draw from the Nature deck to form a hand of five cards and explore the town during the morning phase. Who knows what you'll find when you draw from the Nature deck? Maybe a friendly neighbour, or some freshly grown produce, or a sought-after bug. If you don't like what you find, shuffle the Nature deck and redraw (with a small penalty) to try your chances at finding something new.
Play your hand by moving items to your bag, taking the bus to town or cashing in a favour from a neighbour.
Once you've played your hand, shuffle the Nature deck and draw five more cards to explore again during the afternoon phase.
When night falls, flip the Nature deck and draw five cards again to find special nighttime creatures and produce.
At the end of the day, decide which items you're going to offer to the spirits and which items you're going to keep in your bag. Use energy tokens to buy gear that will help you explore tomorrow.
How high can you go?
Add up your points at the end of each day, counting up the items in your bag plus points from any locations you've visited.
At the end of the game, add up the points from your five days in Sweetapple. How many points did you get this week?
Countless opportunities
Try out challenges, switch starting decks to meet new neighbours, and test out different gear.
With so many combinations of cards and lots of different strategies to try, no two days in Sweetapple will be the same.
